What wine glass shoud I use?

Yesterday a person contacted me, he is opening a cool bar in a big city and was in doubt about what would be the best wine glass to put in the bar. So I decided to write to help other people. =)

A wine glass is the bridge between the drink and the drinker and it influences the senses: sight, touch, smell and palate. Needless to say, a proper wine glass maximizes a person’s experience according to the type of wine. It was carefully designed to highlight the best attributes of a particular wine according to its characteristics. There are wine glasses for sparkling wines, white wines, different shapes for red wines (Bordeaux and Burgundy), for fortified wines, ISO wine glasses for tastings … Some things may be exaggeration, however, all care is little when it comes to offering an experience .

Wine glass ISO

First of all, a wine glass should be all transparent. The stem should also have no color. It is no use putting beautiful wineglass colors to match the decor, seeing the color of the wine in the glass and its appearance is an integral part of a pleasant sensory experience (sight). The color of the wine and its appearance can, for example, give us clues about how a wine was made, if it is aged, what grape was used and even if there is the presence of lees. There is nothing more sad than drinking a wine that has a beautiful and bright color in a wine glass which you do not see through.

Secondly, it is important that the wine glass is suitable for wine. When you drink a wine in a “cup”, for example, you lose the opportunity to experience all the aromas and taste potential of the wine. The sense of smell is extremely connected to the perception of taste, that is, to the palate. Although the stem of a cup allows the wine not to warm up, besides being possible to observe it from all angles, the occasion or the environment can also influence the choice. For example, in casual tastings, there are those who advocate the use of stemless wine glasses because they are stripped and harder to break.

The Crystal is always the best option, because it is more porous and so it increases the perception of the aromas.

And the cat’s leap I tell only to those who write to me;)
